He’s a far cry from Hank the Ballpark Pup, but Carl has been producing results.

Ozaukee High School’s baseball team received the stuffed raccoon from Kewaskum after the Warriors’ walk-off victory over Cedar Grove-Belgium in the playoffs on Kewaskum’s new turf field.

The varmint, pasted to a piece of wood, allegedly helped the Indians go on a 13-game winning streak. Once they lost in the playoffs, they wanted to pass on their good-luck charm.

The Warriors were happy to accept. Chants of “Carl is with you” and “Coon power” have been heard from their dugout. They pet him for good luck.

“He helped out a little bit today,” catcher Mitch Weyker said after a 13-2 win over Sturgeon Bay on June 4 that sent Ozaukee to state.

“He’s been a huge impact since he joined,” second baseman Simon Bares said. “We might have to make a shirt for him or something.”

Carl was scheduled to travel with the team to the state tournament in Appleton.

“He’ll be there front and center,” Weyker said.
