Donald Huebner

Donald Henry "Don" Huebner of Madison went home on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg after a seven-month battle with cancer.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1932, to Raymond A. and Olive R. Huebner (Eck) in Waukesha.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 with the occupation forces in Germany.

Once home, he returned to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a business degree.

Upon graduating, he was hired by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. as a bank examiner until he retired in 1987.

On Oct. 18, 1958, he married the love of his life, Lorna May Wulff Huebner, in Grafton.  They made their home in Grafton for 10 years before moving to Madison.

After retiring from the FDIC, he started his second career as a loan review officer for Monona Bank, leaving there in 2000.

He enjoyed being a snowbird in Fort Myers, Fla., for many years.  He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, the Green Bay Packers and the UW Badgers play football. For many years he enjoyed square dancing, even traveling to Germany and London to dance. After his retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard and was very proud of it. His children and their families were the center of his retirement years. He was very appreciative of their accomplishments and attended as many events with them as he could.  He loved a good bargain at the antique malls and flea markets and visiting with his friends at stamp club.

He is survived by his wife Lorna May; children Peter (Candace) of Mazomanie, Rachel (John) Meek of Madison and Paul (Diane) of Mauston; grandchildren Quinn (Michael) Christensen, Grace  Huebner, Olivia Huebner, Ashley Meek, Brianna (Ethan) Giebel, Brock Huebner and Carissa Huebner; his sister Helen Schmidt; and extended family; and friends.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Midvale Community Lutheran Church in Madison.

Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Lakefield Cemetery in Grafton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Midvale Community Lutheran Church, Agrace HospiceCare or a charity of your choosing.
