Cyclers speed through Grafton

Mother Nature keeps it dry for annual event

CYCLISTS COMPETING IN the Giro d’ Grafton flew through downtown Grafton last Saturday. They often travel in a line to ride in competitors’ drafts and conserve energy. Giro d’ Grafton was the third stop in the 11-day, 11-race Tour of America’s Dairyland. Cyclists were scheduled to race in Muskego on Wednesday, in Shorewood on Thursday, Bay View on Friday, Milwaukee on Saturday and in Wauwatosa on Sunday to complete the tour. The breeze going through Grafton’s downtown on Saturday was partly from the weather but mostly from a host of cyclists.

Giro d’ Grafton, the third stop on the Tour of America’s Dairyland bike races, was held throughout the day.

Cyclists are put into categories, with 1 being the best and 5 for the newcomers.

Grafton’s Russ Kempka took ninth in the Category 1/2/3 Masters 50+.

The Tour of America’s Dairyland ends this week, wrapping up its run in Wauwatosa on Sunday.
