County officials are seeking a state tourism grant to help market the Ozaukee Interurban Trail and attract bicycle enthusiasts, especially in the fall.

The Wisconsin Dept. of Tourism Joint Effort Marketing, or JEM, grant for $39,550 is being sought by the Ozaukee County Planning and Parks Department.

The funds would be used to develop a new interactive website, develop a signage plan and implement a coordinated advertising plan for the bike trail focusing on the fall season to increase tourism and the economic impact of the trail, according to documents submitted by county planners.

The grant will cover up to 75% of promotional costs in the project’s first year, up to half of the total budget. In the second year the grant would fund up to half the promotional costs and 25% of the promotional costs in the third year.

Matching money required by the state will come from local chambers of commerce, municipalities, the Ozaukee County Tourism Council and in-kind contribution from the county in staff time.
