Belgium to hold Splash Pad Sunday, celebrate National Day

Things are about to get wet in the Village of Belgium, and for once it has nothing to do with the weather forecast. The village’s first Splash Pad Sunday of the season will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Village Hall, 104 Peter Thein Ave. Besides water shooting out from the ground, activities include a bubble pool, water balloon games and chalk art. Free ice cream will be provided courtesy of Port Washington State Bank, and Cupcake-a-Rhee will be selling cupcakes. In addition, Sunday is National Day in Luxembourg, to where many residents in Belgium trace their heritage. The day celebrates the Grand-Duchess Charlotte’s birthday. But she was born on Jan. 23 and the celebration was moved to June 23 so it could be held in summer. As such, the Luxembourg American Cultural Society is offering free admission on Sunday. Children may paint peckvillchens, Luxembourgish bird whistles, and a Luxembourgish dress-up and photo area will be offered. The second Splash Pad Sunday is scheduled for July 28.
