Honoring those who demonstrate that character counts

KID LGA crowd gathered at the Niederkorn Library in Port Washington Monday to celebrate the 11th anniversary of Character Counts — the Port Washington-Saukville School District, City of Port Washington and Village of Saukville initiative that seeks to instill good character, ethics and value in young people — and honor this year’s Outstanding Character County Award recipients. They were (seated, from left) Laurie Miske and Heather Boesch, both longtime administrative assistants for local law enforcement agencies, and Lisa Holtebeck, the executive director of Ozaukee Family Services who accepted the award on behalf of the agency. Miske and Boesch are volunteers in Port Washington High School’s peer mentoring program. “They are the rocks of our program,” Principal Eric Burke said. “I’m so blessed to have them be part of our program.” Ozaukee Family Services was honored for the work it does to support young people and families.                                                                                              Photo by Bill Schanen IV
