Random Lake resident back on popular TV show for another $1 million quest
Andrea Boehlke of Random Lake, who was the 13th castaway to be voted off the island on the CBS reality show “Survivor: Redemption Island” in 2011, has another chance to win $1 million in “Survivor Caramoan: Fans vs. Favorites.”
Boehlke, 23, is one of 10 favorites from previous shows to be chosen for the Bikal team. They will compete against the fans, new castaways on the Gota team. The show is set on an island in the Philippines.
The 26th season will debut with a two-hour show that begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Boehlke, her parents Linda and Royal, family and friends will gather at the Silver Creek Fire Department Hall to watch the premiere.
“If it’s like the last time, the place will be crazy. People dressed up in all sorts of ridiculous get-ups. It’s a rowdy group,” Boehlke said in a phone interview from New York, where she lives and works.
All but the final episode have been filmed, but Boehlke and other contestants are sworn to secrecy.
In her online biography, Boehlke said she has a good chance to take the top prize this year.
“Besides having the outdoor stuff down, I now have one season under my belt and aim to come out of the gate swinging,” Boehlke said. “I’m hoping all the crazies will target each other right off the bat.
“I am pretty good at making friends and alliances and can be pretty sneaky if I want to be. I plan to come out strong and aggressive in an all-or-nothing fashion and hopefully it works in my favor.”
Boehlke moved to New York in 2011 shortly after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a degree in theater and communications.
She’s had some acting jobs and is a host of UGO.com, an online entertainment site.
“I get to talk about movies and news and fun things,” Boehlke said. “I really like hosting. It brings out me.”
She is also a host for “Fit or Flop,” an online fitness show, and writes for Nu-Mode, an online fashion magazine.
“I interview DJs and fashion designers. I don’t know much about fashion, but so far nobody has uncovered that fact,” Boehlke said. “I have a lot of work now, but I’m always applying for jobs on social media.
“In New York, it’s all or nothing. A few months in the summer I wasn’t working and my agent wasn’t sending me out on anything.”
She was notified in spring that there would be past contestants on the 2013 “Survivor,” so she went home to get in shape.
She ran, bicycled, swam, did strength training and practiced archery. Her father buried idols (which provide immunity from being voted off the show) that she tried to find and devised other games.
“Survivor” has been a favorite show of Boehlke and her family for years.
In 2011, she was billed as the wholesome farm girl from Wisconsin, pictured with pigs and cows.
Boehlke will have two Redemption Island contestants on her team — Phillip, a man with strong convictions who came in second, and Francesca, who was the first one voted off.
“The first season, Phillip was ridiculous,” Boehlke said. “I know what it’s like to be with Phillip for 37 days. I will enjoy seeing how other people react to him.”
Her team of former contestants is filled with strong personalities, Boehlke said.
“On paper, we may look stronger because we played before, but the fans look more athletic and younger,” she said.
“I think this one will be even more fun than Redemption Island.”
The Wednesday night parties at Silver Creek Fire Department will be held as long as Boehlke is on the island, her mother said.
Boehlke will come home for as many as she can.
“I never appreciated my hometown until I moved to New York,” she said. “New York is great, but there’s nothing like the Random Lake area.”
The firehouse is at W6566 Hwy. 144.
