Emergency responders, Landt-Thiel members receive recognition

An annual tradition, Saukville Landt-Thiel American Legion Post 470 took time recently to recognize those who serve the American Legion and the community.

Topping the awards program was the selection of Dennis Loof as Post Legionnaire of the Year.

Loof has held various offices with the Post and is currently its first vice commander.

Community service awards were also presented.

Those winners included Emily Neese, who was named Police Officer of the Year; Kyle Goetz, who was named Firefighter of the Year; and Sue Schlegel, who was named Emergency Medical Technician of the Year.

Neese annually organizes the National Night Out observance for Ozaukee County. Goetz and Schlegel were recognized for the leadership roles they have taken on at the Saukville Fire Department.

All of the award winners will now advance to the county level, with those honorees vying for recognition at the district, department and national levels.

A special certificate of appreciation was also bestowed on Legion member Norbert Kirsch, who edits the Post’s newsletter, The Legionnaire Sounder.
