Port Washington State Bank is remodeling two of its local branches, starting next week.

Work will be done on the interior and exteriors of the bank’s branches in Saukville and Belgium.

The bank partnered with The Redmond Co. of Waukesha, a specialist in banking facilities, to coordinate the remodeling projects.

“They do a tremendous job at The Redmond Co. to accommodate the needs of our customers and employees so it can be business as usual during the remodeling process,” said Port State Bank President and CEO Steve Schowalter.

The bank has had a presence in Saukville since 1967, when it was located near Veterans Park. It moved to its current location on Green Bay Avenue in 1982.

“Our current facility has served us well for the past several decades and our remodeling will bring the building forward with modern amenities, such as wireless Internet, hearthside waiting areas, a children’s play zone and much more to make the facility even more customer friendly,” Schowalter said.

The bank traces its roots in Belgium back to 1934. In 1961, it moved into its current building on Main Street.

The remodeling there will include a major facade enhancement, along with the addition of various amenities to the interior. The work will include the creation of personal banking offices, a conference room and new waiting areas.

Schowalter said the work is an indication that “it is our intent to make Belgium our home for many years to come.”

Founded in 1899, Port State Bank is the oldest and largest independent bank based in Ozaukee County.

It has six full-service offices and employs 100 people.

According to the bank, it has assets in place exceeding $475 million, placing it in the top 20% of banks statewide.
